Age-related sub-fertility

All studies focusing on the area of reproduction pinpoint a woman’s age as a basic factor, which determines the outcome of a treatment. In spite of improvements in treatment protocols and laboratory techniques, we have not discovered a way to improve oocyte quality in the case of older women.

Although the spermatozoa are constantly produced in the testicle, the same is not true of the oocytes. The oocytes are produced only once in a woman’s lifetime (during her fetal life). This means that as a woman’s age increases, her ovarian reserve decreases with a subsequent decline in oocyte quality.

Consequently, every couple that becomes aware of a problem while trying to conceive should consult a specialist promptly, particularly if the woman is over 37 years old.
